Two Limmer Goals Can't Close Out Game against Joy

Saturday night, May 28th, the Thunder took on Joy Athletic Club at O’Gorman's McEneaney Field. The first 20 minutes saw both teams seeking opportunity to break down the opposing team. Twice in a span of a few minutes Brennan Haggerty was fouled, the second time leading to the best scoring opportunity off a set piece with a blast by Tyler Limmer. Joy's Phillip Caputo picked up his first of two goals in the 24th minute.

It did not take long for Joy to take advantage of the halftime break to go up just two minutes in. But the Thunder began their comeback with a penalty kick tucked away in the bottom corner by captain Tyler Limmer in the 51st minute, after he was taken down by the keeper in the box after a one-on-one. Joy answered with a goal in the 68th minute to go up 3-1.

Stevenson Storm made his presence felt shortly after entering the game with a nice high shot that was deflected over the crossbar by the Joy keeper. Twenty minutes later Tatsuki Kobayashi sent a pass to a wide-open Limmer who snuck one past the keeper bringing the score to 3-2. Shortly after the goal, Limmer was able to get into the box for one last opportunity but just fell short of a third goal. In the remaining minutes the Thunder pressed hard but were unable to find the equalizer.

The Thunder will return to McEneaney Field for a rematch with Med City this Saturday, June 4 at 7:00 pm.
